About German–Czech Youth Exchanges — Tandem

Tandem is the coordination centre for German–Czech youth exchange, not one fixed tour or placement. Its German and Czech offices connect partners, advise organisers, support funding and sometimes publish direct events.

Start with the current event calendars, open a specific call and check its age, residence or group link, dates, fee, working language and capacity. If no suitable call is open, a German or Czech school, youth organisation or community group must first build an approved bilateral project.

Eligibility criteria

  • AgeThe main German youth-encounter framework covers ages 8–26; leaders and professionals can follow separate rules, and every live project may narrow the age band.
  • Residence and groupThere is no universal EU-passport allowlist. A call can require residence, school or group membership in Germany or Czechia.
  • DurationKJP-funded group encounters normally last 5–30 days including travel; direct events and border formats can be shorter.
  • LanguageGerman or Czech is not universally required. The organiser states the working language and any animation, mediation or interpreting.
  • ApplicationIndividuals apply to the named live call or organiser, not to a generic Tandem eligibility form.
  • CostsFunding is managed through the organiser and does not guarantee a free place; fees and uncovered costs remain project-specific.
