Cultural exchange guide
WWOOF and Workaway connect travellers with hosts offering accommodation—and sometimes meals—in exchange for agreed help. They are platforms, not employers or government mobility programmes.

Visa legality matters
WWOOF focuses mainly on organic farms and sustainable living. Workaway covers a wider range of hosts, including families, hostels, community projects and small businesses.
Arrangements vary widely. Clarify hours, tasks, private or shared accommodation, meals, days off, transport and internet access before committing. Read recent host reviews and keep an alternative plan.
Free accommodation does not automatically make the activity legal under a tourist status. Immigration authorities may still consider an exchange to be work. The platform does not replace the correct visa or travel insurance.
Always verify the current rules. Immigration conditions, quotas, funding and application periods can change. Use the official source linked from the individual programme page before applying.
