About this programme
Volontariat Associatif is an adult route within France’s civic-service framework. You undertake a public-interest mission with a state-approved association or foundation, in France or abroad. Fields include education, culture, the environment and humanitarian action.
The contract normally runs for six to twenty-four months and provides an allowance and social protection. The host agrees the mission and practical support with you. It is a formal volunteer commitment and cannot replace a regular employee’s role.
Eligibility criteria
- AgeNormally 25+. An approved host may obtain an exception for ages 18–25.
- Citizenship or residenceFrench, EEA or Swiss citizens, or qualifying non-European residents. Residence-permit exceptions apply.
- HealthA medical certificate confirming suitability for the mission is required.
- Application routeApply directly to an approved host; local civic-service contacts can identify approved organisations.
Important to know
French unemployment-benefit payments are suspended during the mission and can resume afterwards. The volunteer allowance varies with the contract. Confirm the amount, hours, insurance and any accommodation or travel support with the host.
