About British Council – Entente Cordiale

The current Entente Cordiale offer administered by the British Council in France is a €10,000 scholarship supporting one year of full-time postgraduate law study in the United Kingdom. For 2026–2027, the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer–Cercle Montesquieu route covers selected LLM fields and offers one award. It is not restricted only to French passport holders: applicants may qualify through French nationality or through having completed the required level of higher education in France. University admission and scholarship selection are separate, and candidates need a strong academic record, an eligible conditional offer and excellent English. The environmental Entente Cordiale route has no application call this year.

Eligibility criteria

  • AudiencePostgraduate applicants pursuing an eligible full-time law master in the United Kingdom.
  • Nationality or French studyFrench nationality, or higher education completed in France to the required Bac+3/Bac+4 level.
  • QualificationBac+3 for an eligible double-degree route including an LLM, or Bac+4 in an eligible field of law.
  • AdmissionAt least one acknowledged UK application and a conditional offer from a UK university.
  • Language requirementExcellent English; most universities require at least IELTS 6.5.

Applications for the 2026 law scholarship are closed. The climate scholarship has no call this year. Future availability must be checked on the British Council France website.
