About this programme

Luxembourg’s Service Volontaire is a family of structured youth volunteering routes coordinated by the SNJ (Service national de la jeunesse), the National Youth Service. Some projects take place in Luxembourg; others are hosted in Europe or farther abroad. You contribute to a public-interest project through a defined, full-time commitment.

The national route offers three to twelve months with an approved host, while international routes have their own project conditions. Registration with SNJ gives access to the legal volunteer framework, including allowances and social insurance. The general admission conditions include legal residence in Luxembourg, completed compulsory schooling, being under 30 at the start and speaking Luxembourgish, French or German. SNJ confirms the conditions for your chosen route.

Eligibility criteria

  • Age & schoolingComplete compulsory schooling and be under 30 at the start; individual routes may set different age conditions.
  • ResidenceLegal residence in Luxembourg is required for the general statutory volunteer framework.
  • LanguageSpeak at least one official language: Luxembourgish, French or German.
  • Application routeChoose a route through SNJ, agree an approved project and register as a volunteer.
