About International Youth Workcamps

International workcamps are short, unpaid group projects run by local host organisations and exchanged through networks such as the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations. A typical camp brings together 10–20 volunteers for two to three weeks.

The Alliance does not place volunteers directly. Start with the member or partner serving your country of residence; that sending organisation explains current projects and submits your application to the host.

Eligibility criteria

  • AgeMost adult camps start at 18; teen, senior and profile-specific projects also exist.
  • QualificationsMost camps require no formal qualification, but the dated project controls language, skills, accessibility and availability.
  • Residence routeYour country of residence normally determines the sending organisation; nationality is not a blanket eligibility rule.
  • DestinationChoose a live project and check the host’s entry, visa and insurance requirements.
  • ConditionsAccommodation and meals are usually basic and shared; the work is unpaid.
  • CostsExpect a sending or registration fee plus travel, insurance, visa, personal costs and any stated project supplement.
