About World Heritage Volunteers — UNESCO Initiative
World Heritage Volunteers is an annual UNESCO World Heritage Centre initiative. UNESCO selects action camps connected to World Heritage or Tentative List sites; local youth organisations, NGOs, heritage bodies or public institutions organise them and recruit volunteers.
The 2026 campaign lists 87 projects at 82 properties and sites in 37 countries. Choose a current project, read its dated brief and contact the named organiser. UNESCO does not accept or decide individual applications.
Eligibility criteria
- AgeThe initiative generally targets young people and standing guidance commonly refers to students aged 18–30, but each project controls its age rule.
- Project criteriaThe organiser sets residence or nationality, language, skills, accessibility and full-date availability requirements.
- DurationAction camps generally include at least 10 full activity days; exact 2026 dates vary by project.
- ApplicationUse the current campaign list and contact the implementing organisation named for the project.
- CostsVolunteers usually pay travel and insurance; hosts generally provide food and lodging, while fees and other support vary.
- Entry conditionsCheck visa, insurance, health and destination requirements directly with the organiser before booking.
